Virtual Pincab
I decided to try out this digital pinball setup i've been hearing about (cold cold winter = crazy project idas). I threw together a computer with parts off kijiji and a few from the computer store and set it up to run visual pinball and the Hyperpin frontend. I laid my 46" tv down on top of my pinball machine (pink panther) and used a 19" lcd for the backglass monitor. I took apart an old usb gamepad and wired it to the flipper buttons on my cabinet. Heres what it looks like:
Its really fun! the computer i have runs it perfectly and the flippers react instantly. Its not real pinball but its a videogame that mimics the feel of real pinball. with the full size playfield monitor and the flipper buttons on the side of the cabinet, It really feels closer to pinball than a videogame! I dont have nudge sensors installed at this stage, but still find myself trying to nudge the cabinet instinctively anyways, ha. I just set this up as a test, but I'm so pleased with the result that, basically I dont have a tv anymore, haha. I'm gonna have to build this into a full size cabinet. I tried it first with a 24" computer monitor on its side and it was not that impressive at all. The full size playfield screen is really what does it.
the computer got is a core2duo 3.18ghz with 4gig ddr2 ram and an asus gtx560Ti 1gb graphics card and it runs it perfectly at 1080p with no slowdown once everything was setup properly. I have 16 tables loaded on it now from some impressive tables that ive never played before, MM, AFM, TOTAN, to the ones I played to death as a teenager,TZ, FT, SS. Now i just need to get this off of my REAL pin and into its own cabinet.
Does anybody out there have an empty cabinet they would part with? Anybody else have one of these setups or planning one?

Wow nice work! I'd love to build one of these myself. There was a guy on pinballrev selling cabinets. Check out this thread: http://www.pinballrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2048

Re: Virtual Pincab
If you do build one shoot me a line maybe I can help, I've learned alot about setting up the software to get it working well. I can do the woodwork if it comes to it and build my own cabinet, but then I will need to buy legs, siderails, coindoor, lockbar, etc. thought it may be cheaper/easier to find an old cabinet with all the parts and clean it up

Re: Virtual Pincab
Not a lot of people part out pinball machines in Winnipeg... unless you buy an old EM from someone and strip/part it yourself.

Re: Virtual Pincab
I tracked down an empty Space Shuttle cabinet and am going forward with this! Picked up a couple tvs when I was in the USA this week and getting ready to put it all together.

Re: Virtual Pincab
That is very impressive. What's more impressive is that both screens synced up perfectly to create an authentic experience.
Re: Virtual Pincab
heres some pics of how it looks now, built into an empty space shuttle cab, got a bigger screen for the BG and added a third monitor to display the dmd separately.

my phone takes kinda crappy photos but you get the idea. Its pretty fun, I have around 80 different tables loaded on it
