Doctor Who Time Expander = Finger Guillotine??
As we all know when it comes to Doctor Who pinball, the table's most notable feature is the Time Expander toy. Working on three levels, the Time Expander adjusts accordingly based upon specific procedures. Level 1 provides two locking kick-out holes for The Doctor and Ace that the player must shoot into in order to activate the next level and a middle target panel to activate or reactivate the locking procedure itself for the holes. Level 2 provides a bank of 5 target panels that must be struck accordingly in order to "deactivate" the Time Expander and set it down from Factor 15 to Factor 0, thus leading to Level 3. This level is also used in the Davros fight. Level 3 provides three access holes covered by Dalek flyaway targets that the player must shoot into in order to fight back against the Daleks and score jackpots accordingly to each wave before the toy goes back to level 2 for the Davros fight.
However, the Time Expander itself is known to house a dark secret. Despite its innocent functions, the toy is capable of severing a pinky or two should one place their finger in the wrong hole at the wrong time. The problem was bad enough that Barry Oursler, Bill Pfutzenreuter and Zofia Bil had to install a safety switch in the side of the machine in order to prevent any "sudden" movements in the toy that could send a poor serviceman to the emergency room.
Todd Tuckey of TNT Amusements can explain this a bit more.
Yikes!

I've friended Tuckey through Facebook and I can get more info if I so choose. Maybe he can confirm to me whether or not someone actually lost a finger to that malevolent device.
