Feedback from pinsider techs on LOTR issue...
Here is the link to the post I made ->

It appears that the solder needs to be "reflowed" on the optos!

or replace the boards..............I would switch them first to make sure that solves it.
If you are going to Johns tonight I can bring a set of boards with me

Hey dude, its definately worth a try before resoldering a board that 100% working. I will try to sneak away to Johns tonight
Re: Feedback from pinsider techs on LOTR issue...
Hey Malibu, I did reflow the solder on both opto boards and it did work for about 5 min!!! After a reboot, its back to showing 5 balls
If you can bring a set of boards tonight to John's that would be great. If that does not fix the issue, then I need to troubleshoot further. Hey Now!

I am happy to say that replacing both boards with brand new spiffy ones solved the problem once and for all. Thanks dude!

Noooooooooooooooooooo! I guess I will have to remove my score of 269MIL from Pinside too since it was completed with a jacked up PIN
Re: Feedback from pinsider techs on LOTR issue...
Congrats on getting the machine back up and running. What are you doing with your old boards? Mind if I take a look at them.. I might be able to breath some life into them again for you!
So it was the ROM version that was causing higher scores or just some settings?

Hey Prock, sure you can have the old opto boards. If you are coming out Friday I will bring em.
They were failing and causing the PIN to read 5 balls in the trough (see screenshot above). This would cause all kinds of issues that were mostly positively during gameplay For example multiball scenarios would keep spiting out balls like a maniac causing you to complete the mode and get a pretty decent score in the process. The only drawback, would be the burnout of the transistor on the board and eventually smoking of the coil
I added the updated CPU roms 10.02 and display Rom 10.0 to get the shaker to work like it does with LOTR LE. It adds quite a bit of tactile excitement to the game IMO.

Yeah I have to DE machines with shakers... I agree it adds a lot to the game. Nice addition to LOTR I'd imagine!
On a side note I found out that the game with the first shaker was a Williams game called Earthshaker. Apparently Williams didn't get around to patenting the idea so DE adopted it and put it in quite a few games (followed by STERN of course).
